Author Jeff Kinney likes to make people laugh. He kept that goal in mind while he was writing his latest book, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Getaway. The story features more antics of middle schooler Greg Heffley and his family. This time, their vacation in paradise turns into a hilarious train wreck. “There will be some big moments and big laughs,” Kinney told TFK Kid Reporter Luke Joachim.
Kinney started writing Wimpy Kid books in 1998. And he hopes to write many more. The ideas keep coming to him, partly because he relates to the book’s unlikely hero. “Greg reminds me a little bit of myself as a kid,” he says. “He makes some of the same mistakes I did.” Many of the series’ millions of readers feel the same.
