Going Home

CATHERINE YOUNG; STEPHEN BLUE FOR TIME FOR KIDS

Louisiana’s Way Home opens in the middle of the night, when Louisiana Elefante’s grandmother rouses her from sleep, puts her in the car, and drives. At first, Louisiana isn’t worried. As she says, “Granny has many middle-of-the-night ideas.” But soon, Louisiana realizes Granny doesn’t plan to go back. The story follows Louisiana’s quest to defy Granny and return home to her cat, Archie, and her best friends, Raymie and Beverly.

Readers were introduced to Louisiana two years ago, in the award-winning Raymie Nightingale. When author KATE DICAMILLO finished writing that book, she thought she was done with Louisiana for good. But the character kept popping into her head. “She just would not go away,” DiCamillo told TFK. “She wanted her story told.”
